ABOUT

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"I see a master artist as  someone who has spent years developing a proficiency over their materials by studying both in the studio and outdoors. They have acquired a deep understanding and appreciation of nature through careful observation and analytical thinking. They constantly seek the relative truths of nature, which are as much a tool for the artist as their materials. The stronger the tool set attained, the more stable a platform the artist has for self expression.  This is the artist I desire to be."

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Jason Daniel Jackson graduated from Nossi College of Art in 2003, with a degree in commercial art. He soon became interested in painting, and now has chosen to work primarily in oil. Jason divides his time between  painting still lifes with a special emphasis on vintage toys, commissioned portraits and landcapes.

Jason is influenced by realist artists from the 19th century. His Favorites include William Bougoureau, John Singer Sargent, Antonio Mancini and Ivan Shishkin.  He is continually looking to artists of the past and present for instruction and inspiration. Recent instruction has come from workshops with Tony Ryder, Michael Shane Neal and Roger Dale Brown.

For four years Jason apprenticed under nationally known portrait artist Dawn Whitelaw.  She has instilled in him a strong work ethic, as well as a dedication to passing down the craft.  In the interest of sharing what he is learning, Jason has recently begun to teach.   Jason draws inspiration for his art from everyday life, as well as childhood memories.  As his painting progresses, he strives to develop his ability to express himself through his body of work.
